About the ISMS Band Program
The ISMS Band program consists of two bands:
- The Training Band, Sax2Bass, is for children new to their instruments and ensemble playing; and rehearses once a week out of school hours with our specialist conductor.
- The Concert Band, Good Vibrations, is for the more experienced players. It is led by our specialist conductor and rehearses from once a week out of school hours.
Both bands join forces for a combined rehearsal at least once a term.
Children around the age of eight and older are welcome to join the band program and are encouraged to start learning their instrument at least six months before joining the band. Once during each year, children who will be old enough to join the band program in the following year, are given the opportunity to try all the band instruments, to see what instrument they may like to play and have an affinity with.
Performances
The bands have opportunities to perform, both on and off campus, several times in the year. Events include band camp, BandFest, Police Band workshops and performances, Green Day Out and an end of year Music Concert.
Band Resources
The Band Program at ISMS is run by the ISMS Music Coordinator and the ISMS Music Administrator, with invaluable support from the Band Conductors, the instrument tutors, school staff, and the parents. As a ‘Band Parent’, support and assistance is needed and is called upon from time to time, so that the Band Program can continue to thrive and grow.
